HSA APPLICATION FORM Jan 2026 V1
Workshops are a practical, ‘hands on’ experience.
You will have covered Safe Horse Handling, Lesson Teaching and Trail Riding in your On-line modules and we will discuss and demonstrate our safe practices expectations. Then you will have the opportunity to practice those skills and show us where your skill levels lie.
Horse Handling – Everyone completes this portion of the Workshop.
Your task will be to “teach” a small group the Safe Horse Handling practices they should use when working around horses, grooming, saddling, bridling etc.
Instructor Lessons – For those aiming for Instructor level
You will be assigned three lessons to teach to a group of riders. At least one of these sessions will be to beginners, so consider what you have learned in your Modules and what we demonstrate to you.
Trail Guides
You will be expected to demonstrate safe mounting & dismounting procedures for a group and you will take the group on a ride performing both lead & drag rider roles at some point along the ride. You will also need to demonstrate that you can lead another horse and rider while mounted, as well as mount from the ground.
Assessment Report
At the Workshop we assess the skill type & level of experience & expertise shown. Our expectation is that you are already working within the industry, and well-practiced at handling, riding, teaching lessons and/or working as a trail guide.
By observing your abilities in your presentation of these skills, we can physically assess your level of competency and will provide you with a report after the workshop as to what level your skills currently lie, and whether a qualification is appropriate or further experience is needed.
